Malta’s residency-by-investment programme was ideated as a way to attract foreign investment and add a sustainable channel via which to funnel this investment into the local economy. The programme, now called the MPRP (Malta Permanent Residence Programme), has gone from strength to strength year-on-year. Indeed, last year we saw the heftiest increase in applications – a rise of 124% –  reaching a total of 1759 applications until December 2023.

This accurately reflects what is happening in the global RBI eco-system as we see a surge in demand for second residency from families and individuals hailing from countries experiencing geo-political or economic instability and the desire to live a better life, with freedom of movement, access to good health institutions and educational opportunities for their children.
